Welcome to For 3 Sisters! For 3 Sisters, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that supports breast cancer warriors, survivors and their families, and raises awareness about breast cancer through community outreach!
                Picture

With the unconditional love and support of friends and family, and the generosity and support of complete strangers, cancer warriors can face seemingly insurmountable odds and beat the horrendous disease of cancer.

For 3 Sisters believes the greatest gifts a person can give a cancer warrior are the gifts of love, respect, and reassurance... reassurance that they are not a burden and that they will face cancer together.

Martina McBrides' new song and video "I'm gonna love you through it" is an amazing tribute to cancer warriors, survivors and their families. The song embodies everything For 3 Sisters is dedicated to.

                Arlene (in the pink scarf)
Here is Arlene's story as told by her daughter, Kristina.

My mother, Arlene, is a THREE-TIME breast cancer survivor. She was first diagnosed at age 48, had a partial mastectomy and lymph nodes removed. She was fine and cancer-free for 16 years. Then, she started having numbness in her arm, she thought she was having a heart attack, went to the ER. The neurologist she saw insisted on a PET Scan due to her history....he saved her life....she had Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer on her lung and sternum.

She immediately started chemo, lost her hair, left her job, etc. She then got a clean bill of health, the cancer was gone! Not for long... once again the PET scan and bone scan showed the metastatic cancer on her sternum. This time her fantastic oncologist decided to try radiation combined with a procedure called cyberknife.... that worked! Once again the cancer was gone!

She is still on "maintenance" chemo drugs to keep any more cancer at bay but these have affected her heart as well. Chemo is hell on the body. She is still considered Stage 4 until she is cancer free for 5 years. But through it all, she keeps her positive attitude, spends as much time with her four grandchildren as possible and best of all, has kept her sense of humor. Her attitude has gone a LONG way in her recovery. Last year she was out cheering with us at the Komen 3-Day walk in Philadelphia....and she will keep on cheering us on as we walk so that my little girls won't have to. I urge you to share her story...

Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer is NOT a death sentence and and my mother is the proof!!!!

Paula at the D.C. 3 Day
                Meet Paula!

I remember growing up my father always told me to be passionate about something and give it all you have. June 12, 2011 was 20 years since he left this
world and his words are still with me and motivate me.

I have always been  a huge supporter of the Susan G. Komen and tried to attend all of the walks. I  find myself buying items that would send a portion of the proceeds to Susan G.  Komen. I have always wanted to do the 3 day. Being active duty military though something always came up.  Well 2011 I was able to make the dream of doing the 3-day come true.

This year...I WILL DO THIS AGAIN...in BOSTON!  Im addicted...there is no other way to explain it.

I will do this for the current fighters, survivors and the ones  that have lost the fight. I will do this for the chances to advance the medical technology so that hopefully, one day, you will not have to worry about someone in your family being diagnosed with cancer. Pink used to be just the color little girls wore. The ribbons in their hair or their cute little sun dresses. Pink seems to be associated with such a devastating disease.

[I will] help make pink just another color again!

"After losing his three older sister[s] to breast cancer, Montgomery County Fire Fighter Marshall Moneymaker transformed himself into a crusader for the cure - a burly dude on a Harley with an infectious sense of humor who goes around wearing all pink."
                - Justin Jouvenal, The Washington Post, June 3, 2011.

"Wearing Pepto-Bismol pink firefighter's gear, Moneymaker works to raise both awareness and money in a battle to defeat this form of cancer." -Evan Haning, WTOP, June 5, 2011

What's a pink fireman without a pink fire truck? Sadly, our Pink Fireman doesn't have pink fire truck...but not for long. For 3 Sisters is in the process of procuring a donated fire truck. Once we get it, however, it's going to need a lot of TLC to bring it to life as a mobile breast cancer awareness vehicle!

"Penny", as she has been honorably named, will travel to various events carrying messages of awareness and hope and tools for educating the community about breast cancer and available resources.

So what's Pennies for "Penny"? We are collecting pennies - yes pennies - as a way to raise funds for the restoration and repair of  "Penny" the pink fire truck.

If you're interested in donating your unwanted pennies to the Pennies for "Penny" campaign, please send an email to admin@for3sisters.com and let us know!
